Our Story

The World Garden Network took root in early 2024 when Christine, our founder, relocated to a new neighbourhood. She quickly realised that finding a local gardening group was more challenging than she had anticipated.

After an extensive online search, she finally discovered a community gardening meeting, where she was inspired by the uplifting stories shared by participants about the joy and connections fostered through their collective gardening efforts.

However, the atmosphere shifted as Christine listened to the local community garden project organisers express their frustrations. Many of them were vying for limited funding from the same small pot provided by the local council, while others struggled to recruit volunteers.

This stark contrast between the joy of community gardening and the challenges faced by those trying to sustain these projects struck a chord with her.

Motivated by the difficulties she had heard, Christine delved into extensive research, uncovering the significant role that community gardens could play in tackling pressing global challenges such as climate change, food insecurity, biodiversity loss, and social isolation.

She found numerous inspiring community garden initiatives already making strides in these areas, working to restore the environment and create spaces for healing and connection.

It became clear to that what was needed was a platform to maximise the visibility of community garden projects and facilitate easier funding opportunities for individuals and businesses looking to support local community garden initiatives.
